I too have gone back to college after quitting many years ago to "pioneer." I am on track to get my Bachelor's degree in December. It's 25 years late but worth even more to me now. For a long time I felt that my dream would never be realized and that it was too late for me. But now I feel that the advantages of going back and not giving up on this dream are many. For one thing, I know a lot more about who I am now than I did then. I know now what I want and what I am interested in. I also think it is important to get back some of what the Watchtower has taken from me in life. I can't control the fact that my siblings and their families won't speak to me anymore, but I can decide what educational opportunities I will pursue and what career I want for myself. There is a lot of satisfaction in getting back what I should have had all those years ago and trying to minimize the damage from the WTS.

So, you blew your chance to go to college because of JWs? Don't give up!
by cabasilas ini got the jw "bug" as a teenager.
witnesses called at our door when i was nearly 11. my parents are deaf and i was the oldest hearing child, the default interpreter for them in that era before relay services and professional interpreters.
they had no interest in jws, but it started to spark an interest in me.

The Company We Keep - Lifton's 8 points used by FEDs?
by Dogpatch ininteresting take on robert j. lifton's mind control marks, as now used by the feds??!!
can you trust truthout on stuff like this, or is it mostly sensational but not verifiable?.
randy.

Unfortunately it is all too true and verifiable. After 9/11 the Bush administration made several decisions that allowed this situation to develop. It has become a major human rights problem in the world and has caused even some of our allies to criticize us. Human rights groups like Amnesty International have documented many of the abuses and have serious suspicions about more. They have been working for several years now to try to stop it. Much of this has been reported in the news and more information can be found out about it at various websites like Amnesty's. I am aware of this situation because I have volunteered with Amnesty International for the last several years. Human rights abuses that have occurred in connection with the United States "war on terror" have become one of their biggest priorities, I'm afraid. Several members of Congress have tried to push for a change of policy as well, but with limited success. I hope that with a change of presidential administrations these abuses will come to an end, but at this point we don't know for sure what the future will hold.

Welcome Sadfox. I hope you find this board a healing experience. As difficult as it is now, you have given your children a gift. By leaving yourself, you have opened the door for them to do so when they are ready. I hope it is soon.

memorial 2009
by heathen inanybody hear anything special about it ?
was talking to a witness last night and he mentioned there was some significance to next years memorial in regard to the 1975 date or there about that ended mans six thousand years from creation and now it has something also to do with jesus 33.5 years on earth .
just curious for more info that may be out there as this person suggested that the remaining remnant were very excited about it..........
-
Mrs. Fiorini
How is it that the "remaining remnant" are excited about this? Did they discuss it together at their "remaining remnant" convention? I have known several people over the years when I was a Witness who claimed they were of the anointed. They didn't even know each other and had no direct relationship with the GB.

"If you are Christian you are definately Trinitarian"
by Sirona inmy jw mother thinks that all christians (non jws who call themselves christian) are all trinitarian.. i tried to point out that there are certain groups who are not trinitarian, but she seemed to think that all christian groups in babylon the great believe in the trinity.. is it true that only fringe groups reject the trinity?.
sorry for my ignorance but i don't know much about mainstream christianity.. i would like to email her (my mum) a list of religions which reject the trinity but are also christian.
i also heard of groups who believe and preach about jehovah as gods name.. sirona.

Sirona, Regarding your question of the use of God's name Jehovah, the JW's like to act like they are the only ones who use it. It's simply not true. Even in my Catholic church you will hear it on occasion, although usually in it's more accurate form of Yahweh.

Tears came to my eyes as I read your story. I havenĀ“t talked to my siblings in years and it broke my heart when they refused to come to my wedding.
I am so happy for you and your sister. I know that what ever other feelings she may have, she is just so happy to be seeing you again. I just hope someday my brothers and my sister will be like you and we can be reunited too.

Society to start laminating paper backed publications
by Lady Zombie inat the wednesday night ministry school meeting, a letter from the society was read announcing that wtbts paperbacked publications will begin to be laminated.
according to the letter, this "will save approximately 2 million dollars per year," "lengthen the life of the publications," and "increase the attractiveness" of the publications.. so there's that.. .
also, will someone please explain to me why 85% of the congregation started smiling and nodding at this.. i sometimes think that headquarters could send the congregations boxes of turds and the jws would act like it was the best thing ever..
-
Mrs. Fiorini
I loved the "Box of turds" comment.
Tell 'em it's chocolates and see how many ask for more.CO: "Now when I eat these, I think they taste like turds. But if the Faithful Slave tells me they're chocolates, then I'm going to say they're chocolates."

Do You Still Believe In Anything JWs Taught You?
by minimus inare there any beliefs that you learned from the witnesses that you still believe in?
-
Mrs. Fiorini
This is a good question. When it comes to doctrines that are exclusively JW, I reject them all. And they are not the only Christians who believe, for example, that hell is not a place of torment, etc. I am appreciative, however, of the fact that by being raised a Witness I avoided some of the problems I could have gotten into, for example drug abuse, teen pregnancy and so forth. I once met a young woman who was raised a JW and left it but had taken up smoking. I thought to myself, "with all the crap that religion dumped on you, too bad you weren't able to benefit from the good from it and protect your health." I knew Witness kids that did get into trouble though. And many good churches (and non-religious parents for that matter) help their kids stay out of trouble, so I don't think the JW religion gave me anything positive I couldn't have gotten elsewhere, and it came with a big load of abuse.
